Not new, but interesting nonetheless: U.S. Scientists Say They Are Told to Alter Findings
More than half of the biologists and other researchers who responded to the survey said they knew of cases in which commercial interests, including timber, grazing, development and energy companies, had applied political pressure to reverse scientific conclusions deemed harmful to their business.
Not that Europeans mind cooking the books:
The German government expects a budget deficit of 2.9 percent this year, Handelsblatt said. Almunia said the stability pact could be changed so that in the future the money Germany spends to rebuild the east of the country is not taken into account when calculating the budget deficit, Handelsblatt reported.
But when science is altered for ideological purposes a very different line is crossed. This apparantly has a name: Lysenkoism.
