People are so easily deluded into thinking they’ve instrumented choice, where in reality they’re nothing but passive observers.—CRASS, Yes Sir I Will

They’re In Your Home

Conspiracy nuts, gather around: TiVo is planning to put an RFID-Aware PVR in your living-room.

In the not-so-distant future, RFID tags will be everywhere. They’re steadfastly replacing barcodes, they are tiny enough not to be noticed, they are leaking into your house. They will be in your clothes, in your food-packaging, in your furniture.

Now combine this with digital equipment, able to scan RFID, and able to phone home, like refrigerators. Everything you own, or at least everything you recently bought, can be scanned, and transmitted back to the mothership. Giving marketeers an instant view of your customer behaviour. Match this to an intelligent profiling program, and ads, based on your personal taste, can be instantly served to your TV screen.

Mix this in with digital effects. In my episode of Friends–The Next Generation, the characters will be drinking a different beverage from your episode, based on what’s in our refrigerator.

Tough Rfid-tags have their good sides e.g. manufacturing follow up, proces and quality maintaince, they suck if they get stuck on you. Rfid is like blue tooth, usefull but more abused.

a good site on why Rfid suck: http://www.spychips.com
